Introduction I have been involved in both community based educational programs and public school education for nearly 30 years. The scope of my experience leaves me both concerned and excited about the state of public education in our country at this point in our history. Public education is at a crossroads. While some fear that public education is on the brink of failure, I believe that there exists great possiblity for reform. It is my intention to continue to develop my knowledge, skills and experience to help lead efforts to reform and improve public education. There are many challenges that face our families, communities, teachers, and especially our young people as it relates to public school education. I am of the opinion that it will take a concerted, ongoing effort on the part of passionate, dedicated education professionals to address the ever changing needs of a more diverse community of learners in our public schools. The scope of what the public schools must provide for its students and families is greater now than ever before. In a time where there is a projection for fewer instructional leaders in the ranks of public education, especially leaders of African American decent, I feel some sense of duty, I have an obligation to put my 30 years of experience to use in a leadership role to help improve public education. I believe wholehearted in an equitable quality public education for all members of our society. This is one of the basic tenents that bind us as a people in this country. I have dedicated much of my adult life to that important cause. I am committed to the concept of reforming our system of education so it works to better serve the range of people who now reside in our communities. The credentials found in this section of my portfolio speak to the experience, knowledge and philosophy that have prepared me for the role of Master Principal. |
