I am pleased to present this electronic portfolio as a result of my work with the Wallace Fellows Urban Principal Leadership Project, with the Madison Metropolitan School District, University of Wisconsin Madison and the state of Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction. The purpose of this site is to present an electronic portfolio that supports the concept of master level principal in a public school setting. As principal of Madison West High School in Madison, Wisconsin, I am proud to have been selected as one of the first principals in the state to be considered for Master Principal status. It is indeed a privilege to have been asked to help set the standard by which master level practice for the urban high school principal is determined.
In this portfolio you will find the following key areas: Professional Background, Race and Equity, Organizational Capacity, Leading and Managing, Building the Community, Academic Achievement/Overall School Performance. These areas have been identified by my cohort as the key areas for evaluation of School-based Instructional leaders. These areas will provide indicators that determine master level practice.
This portfolio is best used by reading each of the introductory areas before moving to the sub sections that detail key master principal concepts. Each introduction has a slide show that supports the information found in the content area. The goal is for the reader to make a visual connection between the conceptual framework found in the text and the actual practice that happens in the urban high school setting.
Through this portfolio I hope to further the cause of building a strong foundation of best practice strategies for school based administrators. The goal is to share my philosophy and practical applications that will improve the quality of public education for all.
